Mycle Military Units

Introduction

The world of Mycle is setup very much like a feudal society. All the nations of Mycle are really Dukedoms, with the king living in Ocklad. All able-bodied men and women when they reach the age of 18 are drafted into one of the Duke's armies. There are several ways of getting out of this, the men can volunteer for the King's Army, or their own Duke's army, or be a son of nobility. The women can get married before their drafted. The usual draft term is about one year.

Most drafted people are given minimum training with pikes, spears, and swords. Those that volunteer are given more training are outfitted properly.

The king can call up to 90% of the men under his standard to fight off any enemies to the 16 nations as a whole. This doesn't happen often, most of the time the dukedoms are fighting one another. This keeps them from having ambitions to the throne.

Ranks

The Infantry

The units of the infantry are:

They are usually armed with pikes, spears, and swords. Battery units are armed with Bow and Arrow instead of pikes and spears.

The Calvary

The units of the Calvary are:

Combined Units

The Dragon Calvary

This is real complicated and when I started writing it up it got real confusing. Needless to say their rank structure is totally different. They start off as Sargents taken from the Calvary and then rise in rank to 4th dragon knight when they complete a 10-year squireship, though they may be considered Sargents still. The 1st through 4th dragon knight rank is mostly for where they appear in formations.

A line of dragons is four dragon knights. A 4th dragon knight is in the back, while a 1st dragon knight is in the front. The members can be Sargents, Lieutenants, and Captains.

A squadron is four lines of dragons, plus 2 additional dragons. The leader of the squadron has the rank of Dragon Leader. And is usually voted to be the leader from the four lines when the leader is lost (either killed or promoted). The second additional dragon is the XO of the squadron and the leader's wingman; he has no special rank. 18 dragons

A formation is four squadrons, plus 1 squadron of dragons. Led by a Dragon Major. The line contains the XO of the brigade, plus 2 messenger dragons to relay commands to the squadrons. 90 dragons.

A wing is four formations, plus a squadron. Led by a Dragon Corneal. The squadron contains the XO of the wing. Two lines are made up of bodyguards, and 2 lines made up of messenger dragons to relay orders. 378 dragons and men.

Some squadrons are labeled shock squadrons. They are made up of the more experienced and deadly fighters. They are usually attached to a wing, but mainly act as an independent unit.
