This is just a rambling of what the history of Mycle has been over the last 3000 years.

In the beginning Mycle was populated by elves, dragons, and other magical and mythical creatures. It did not have any humans.

0- Humans arrive from Earth in colonization ships. During the initial wave of colonists about 4000 were on the ground before the Earth dragons attacked. Their magic destroyed the ships on the ground, and the ships still in space. This left the 4000 people stranded. They were able to force off the Earth Dragon attacks enough to flee to the main continent and left the Earth Dragon Territories. They came into the territory of the Nature dragons, which allowed the humans to live.

With their ships destroyed they did not have their library of technological knowledge, and they did not have the tools to build more. All they had was the knowledge that the technicians had in their minds. The other magical races were going to try and wipe the humans out but the Nature dragons hid the humans, protected them when they had to, and generally nurtured the lives of the humans.

Human technology quickly backslid to hunter and gathers. But they did have the advantage of language and literacy. They were able to teach their children and write down what they knew. Knowledge that would be useful when the infrastructure was built up.

50 - The backslide of technology is complete but the humans have started to rebuilt. But all the technological tools they brought with them, and survived the Earth Dragon attack have broken down to the point where they can not be fixed. The people with the knowledge to repair them have died and were not able to teach everything that was needed for repairing the tools.

100 - About 7000 humans have banded together into the first city in Ocklad. They are still vulnerable but still under the protection of the Nature Dragons.

150 - The population of Ocklad has doubled. Mines have been started in the Filkal Mountains. Basic metallurgy was started. With the records of the first settlers, they knew how to form the ceramics and stoves necessary to melt iron and create steel. A rush of expansion to the East was started as mining towns were created to mine the iron that was in high demand. The population of Ocklad shrunk almost over night as it empties out.

Coal was discovered both to the north and to the east. Niad and Nical were settled to mine the coal.

200 - First Niad and then Nical seceded from the government in Ocklad. Air dragons from the Filkal mountains with their Sun and Moon Dragon alias started raiding some of the human settlements that were mining for Iron.

220 - The first dragon war started as humans and dragons fought. The Humans were on the losing side for the most part. The Nature dragons negotiated a peace. The peace wasn't a very good peace as both sides started raiding each other. Humans kept expanding.

250 - Settlers from Ocklad sneak up the rivers in Niad and settle the mountains of Iial. They formed their own nation in secrecy but had strong ties to the people of Ocklad. They had their own problems as they avoided the Moon, and Sun Dragons that were prevalent in the area. They had a strong foothold before anyone noticed.

250 - Men from Iial moved north into Hacknid and ran straight into trouble a couple hundred miles into it. The mountains were rich but a few hundred miles north of the Filkal Mountains the Earth Dragons lived. They started killing humans by the hundred until they drove them back towards the Filkal Mountains. Sun, Moon, and Air dragons took to fight and the second dragon wars started.

250-300 - The Second Dragon War was a war of dragons fighting dragons, and human fighting elves, Nyplemen and dwarves. The Second Dragon War was two completely separate wars that occurred over the same territory at the same time. Both fought for different reasons. It was the first time the eight nations (Ocklad, Niad, Nical, Iial, Hacknid, Spadee, Acknid, and Eldiad) existing at the time fought together.

While the Air dragons and allies fought the Earth dragons back north, the humans pushed the other races out of Hacknid and were able to fortify it.

400-500 - Humans expanded into the rest of the 15 nations, always fighting with the dragons of the Filkal Mountains. But this was never the open warfare like in the first dragon war. Humans also fought with elves, dwarves and Nyplemen to settle the northern kingdoms.

500 - The expansion stopped as the nature dragons slowly withdrew from the humans, as they seemed to cause more death then they create. The humans formed the boundaries of the 15 nations and stopped expansion, securing their holdings. At this time there is about 25,090,000 people living in the 15 nations.

The hero Firepoint fought a Master Air dragon alone. He didn't win but then he didn't lose. The Air dragon was impressed by the human's skill and courage and came to the conclusion that humans would be competent allies. The Earth dragons were growing in strength with their slave allies the Nyplemen and griffins. The Air dragons were worried that they would be at war again.

Rumors reached the Air dragons that the Earth dragons had settled their differences with the Rock dragons, and formed an alliance with the Fire, and Lava dragons. But more surprising was the alliance formed between the Earth and Night dragons. The Air dragons had only the Sun, and Moon Dragons as allies.

The Master Air Dragon, Slius, went back to his kind and proposed the alliance with the humans. They reluctantly agreed to think about it.

505 - An alliance was formed between the Air Dragons and the humans. The Nature dragons joined in as well, knowing they would be in danger of the coming war.

515-550 - the third dragon war broke out. Humans fought on the side of dragons for the first time. Blood and terror filled the skies and the northern most nations were lost to the enemy. Many humans were taken as slaves to the north. Some remained. The war wore badly for the humans and their dragon allies. The dragons started testing the humans for magic ability and taught them the basics of mage craft and sorcery.

550 - Most of Iial, the Filkal Mountains and Selad, along with all the nations to the north were lost. Except for the island nation of Aridecan. It was defended by the water dragons who wanted nothing to do with the war. They sunk all war ships on both sides that traveled the ocean. As a result Aridecan was isolated from the war and started to produce some of the better wizards.

At this time the cat people were created. Lions, Tigers, and Leopards were molded into human like shapes to fight as warriors for the humans. This worked but not as well as was hoped.  Cheetahs and wolves were also molded to human shape, but were more rare.

A talented young sorcerer and a nature dragon came up with the idea of bonding a human to a dragon to increase both their fighting skills. This worked better then they could have hoped. But it was already too late for the elemental dragons. Most had died in the war and they are presumed extinct. The water element dragons disappeared at the same time.

The religion of the gods and goddesses was discovered at this same time as well. The first started as the elemental deities, most likely moving into the void that the elemental dragons filled. But missionaries from the elves and dwarves of the spiritual deities also showed up.

With the dragons starting to be bound to human riders, the fight went against the Rock, Night and Lava dragons. Slowly they were pushed back as more and more dragons and riders took to the field. The Nature dragons and human sorcerers created the two dragon subtypes of Messenger and Transport Dragons

600 - The third dragon war ended, the dragons from the north were defeated and pushed far to the north. Their slave allies (the griffins and Nyplemen) formed their own kingdoms north of Hacknid, Elknid, and Rect. The human slaves started to integrate into the society and slowly started to take over. But this took several centuries, and they took on the hatred of the nations of the south.

The dragons of the south still bonded with the humans but not in as greater numbers. A lasting alliance was made in which the Sun and Moon dragons would rule over the Filkal Mountains and any humans that dwelt there.

The first king was named in Ocklad and the dragons in Filkal who wanted to bond with a human went there to serve the king.

1000 - The wars were settled and many of the grudges were forgotten. None of the dragons that fought the dragon wars were still alive, and the Elemental Dragon races faded into legend and then to myth. The mage wars started and ended over the next few centuries when the king finally got fed up and sent in his dragon wins to keep the peace between the nations. The king also formed the guilds, including magery and sorcery as there own guilds. This stopped most political aims of mages to rule the nations as they started their own internal politics.

The technological records of the original settlers were rediscovered, but mostly unreadable. But it did inspire the techno-mages to feats of technological wonder. Soon most homes had some form of running water, magic heating and cooling (if they were wealthy enough), and as well as other amenities. Electricity was never rediscovered, instead the people focused on magic and use it like electricity. Explosives were the position of the Alchemists, who didn't allow the secrets out of their hands. The human cities grew to have some modernization but never enough in areas that science would take root.

1500 - The first griffin war started as the griffins attached Rect. The dragons and humans were able to push them back.

Trade routes with the elves and dwarves opened up Selad and Kiad. Some elves also created trading cities as far south as Selad and Ocklad, always in the mined out mountains where no humans lived.

2000 - The memory and the history of the third dragon war has passed fully into myth. The Elemental dragons were forgotten as well as the dragons of the north. At least by the nations of the south. Rumors still come back and forth about the evil dragons but they are usually laughed at. The dragons of the south and the humans have formed a society around the dragon riders. Separated but joined. A complex pattern of friendship formed between the sun, and moon dragons to the humans. The nature dragons did not take part in the bonding of rider to dragon after the war.

Minor border clashes break out every once and a while between he griffins and the nations of the south.

2500 - The human population reaches several hundred million across the 15 nations. Border wars between the nations break out constantly and the dragon wings are sent in to break them up. But they are never enough of them to keep the peace in one area for more then a few decades. Iial and Niad were the two worst. Niad wanted the resource rich mountains of Iial, and Iial wanting the fertile plains for food. Iial still remains loyal to the king, while Niad grows farther away.

3000 - present day. The population of the nations is reaching 500 million people. The religion of the deities grows still. Iial and Niad constantly fight. The nations struggle for more independence from the king, while Ocklad does its best to keep them loyal. The dragons till only serve the king in Ocklad, and their own leaders in the Filkal Mountains.

The border wars with the griffins are heating up again; even the trade routes with the elves and dwarves are starting to fall apart. The cat people act as hunter-gatherers, living in the forests, but occasionally trading with the cities and living among the humans.

The technology is still in the medieval stage, having no need or the ability to go past that. Dragons fill the gap of air power. Magic fills in the rest of the gaps in society.
